Steven has over 25 years’ experience in investment management and investment banking, gaining a wealth of experience in these fields while living in London for 22 years. He is a partner at Absolute Return Partners LLP, which is an alternative investment management business based in London. ARP provides bespoke, thematic, and innovative investment solutions for institutional investors and family offices. Steven has been a partner at ARP since 2009, and was the Chief Operating Officer from 2007-2019, where he was responsible for risk management, business development, investment and operational due diligence, client services and all areas of the firm’s operations, including regulation, finance, IT, legal, compliance and fund administration. Steven is responsible for managing ARP’s fund management business that is domiciled in Malta. Steven relocated back to South Africa in 2019.

Prior to joining ARP, Steven was the Finance Officer at GSA Capital from 2005 to 2007, which is a London based statistical arbitrage hedge fund.

Prior to that, Steven worked at Lehman Brothers in London, a US investment bank, from 2000 to 2005, where he held senior positions including the Global CFO of Capital Markets Structured Transactions and Capital Resources, and the European CFO for their Wealth and Asset Management Businesses.

His first role after moving to London was at Schroders Investment Management UK, where he was the Manager of Group Risk from 1998-2000.

Steven started his career at KPMG in South Africa in 1995, where he was responsible for leading audit teams primarily in the financial services sector. He relocated to London in 1998 after qualifying.

Steven is a qualified Chartered Accountant (South Africa) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting. He also holds the Investment Management Certificate Level 3 from the United Kingdom Society of Investment Professionals. He is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and is registered with the financial regulators in both the United Kingdom and Malta.
